Product Reflection

1. Define the following terms:
You may use your notes and online references.

Brand- a trade name or trademark
Marketing- the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods fromthe producer or seller to the
consumer or buyer, includingadvertising, shipping, storing, and selling.
Demographics- the characteristics of the specific audience the product is intended for
Aesthetics- the study of the concept of beauty, taste and what is appealing
Focus Group- group of people questioned together about their opinions on consumer products

2. Explain how these terms are used in product analysis and product evaluation
The focus group is used to determine how appealing the product is to consumers. Their opinions tell the producers what to add or change about their products. The demographics can be used to choose the people that will be part of the focus groups. This is a good idea because who would know what they want better than the intended audience themselves.

3. After creating a CD cover, what have you learned about product design?
I have learned that there are many things to take under consideration. Mainly that it's not what you find appealing but what you think your audience will like. Also that there's many steps before the product is actually created.

4. Explain the steps you took to translate a concept into a design and then to a finished product
I investigated to see the things my targeted audience would have found appealing. Afterwords i added all those things to my sketch of the CD Cover. Finally, i used Photoshop to bring my vision to life, which was my favorite part. I t was also the easiest for me because i knew how i wanted the cover to look and what i wanted to place on it.

5. How has knowing and understanding your demographic helped you to create a product for that demographic?
It helped me create my product because i had an exact idea of what they would find attractive. I was able to use this knowledge when picking the images to put on my cover and how i wanted to present the information on my artist. I also knew the colors to add to catch their eyes when they walked into a store that held my product.

6. Reflecting on your own process in the design task, what would you do differently in executing your design
I would make a more organized plan in creating my product. I wouldn't change a thing about my product except adding a bigger collage of electric guitars in the background to really make the whole rock genre pop out. I would also make the border a more metallic color and use a bigger frame to give the writing more space so that it wouldn't look as small in the small font. A program with more features than Photoshop would also come in handy.

Process Journal 5

I was able to communicate my ideas by using images that reflected them during the design process to place on my CD Cover. I was very successful in creating a concept that fit my particular demographics because I was very aware of what my audience wanted and what they found attractive. From testing my product and asking consumers for their opinion on it I can conclude that my product was very well received. I got good feedback and only around two of negative criticism. Without the techniques and the equipment I used I wuldnt have been able to bring my vision of the CD cover to life the way that I wanted to portray it. The key idea was to create a specific product that consisted of factors that would be appealing to the targeted audience in ways that would call their attention and would make them want to buy the product.

Process Journal #1 (Homework 4)

So far I have got information on my artist which will help me create the insert. I know that the colors I use are going to be dark but shiny, to represent the image of rock. I also have an idea of what I want the image of Diggy to look like on the front cover, him looking directly at the camera like that it seems as if he's looking directly at the buyer when they see the cover. So far I've had no challenges because the task guides break the entire project into different sections for me. It's simple tasks that lead to the completion of the entire project.

Current Events #1

Two severe heads found in Mexico City

BBC World
BBC News - Two severed heads found in Mexico City

Two heads were found near the main military base in Mexico City. The crime was committed by a gang who goes by the name "The Hand with Eyes". The heads were found today, October 3, 2011 in the morning. The culprits had left a note saying that their reasoning was the capturing of their leader, Oscar Osvaldo Garcia Montoya, who was arrested in August. However it is also believed that the decapitations were related to a drug shipment that the police had gotten a hold of at the airport.

This event signifies the violence that goes on around the world because of drugs.I think this event is going to make the citizens of Mexico City be more cautious of their surroundings and pay more attention to what's going on in their city. I also believe the police departments there are going to increase their security to make sure more of these crimes don't occur again. Also increased security at national and global airports to make sure no drugs are able to be smuggled past state and country borders.

The thinker I've chosen is Beccaria. Beccaria would be disgusted by this article, the first thing he would think about would be the violence the two victims must have been treated with, he would view it as inhumane and abusive. He would have no support for this situation, I assume he would be 110% against this abuse against innocent people. If he disliked guilty criminals getting violently abused, he would hate the idea of non guilty people being physically harmed to the extent of death. Beccaria would loathe to even think of the torture and pain the victims could have gone through.

Homework 1B

1) My brand addresses the problem of good footwear having to be expensive.

2) My brand designs comfortable, appealing, and good quality shoes for normal prices.

3) Converse does convey this message accurately with the materials the use to create the products and the prices they're sold.

4) I do identify with the message because i think you shouldn't be cheated out of your money. Shoes that cost up to $100 usually take up less that $20 to originally be made.

Blog Entry #4.12 - Process (E)

The front of muy box is looking good. The background and text colors are very bright and call the attention. The picture of my important person has been placed on the front and so has the cereal bowl. But the advertising of the prize inside still has to be placed on a bottom corner on the front of the cereal box.

Blog Entry #4.10 - Slogans (B)

1)Feed your creativity 2)For the best artists 3) Get a dose...of Michaelangel - O's 4) Indulge! And let your tummy and taste buds enjoy. 5) Making the artist within you, shine through. There are like three of the slogans that are good but i would say the third one is the best. It goes with the best option of all the cereal names I came up with, it rhymes and is also catchy, seems to just roll off your tongue.

Blog Entry #4.9 - Cereal Names (B)

1) Caravaggio Corn Puffs 2) Michalangel - O's 3) Cara - Flakes 4) Italian Pops 5) caravaggio Saint Corn Pops The second cereal name is the best because it combines his name with the type of cereal that there's going to be in the box. It also sounds the catchiest and seems to be the most creative.

Blog Entry #4.8 - Target Consumer (B)

My target consumer would be artists. But specifically young artists. To target this customer i'm going to use bright colors, rainbow colors. And the text is going to be playful and bold. The images I pick are going to be child friendly, not boring looking and dull. The slogan I choose will also target young kids and the front of the box will advertise a toy inside.

Blog Entry #4.5 - Design Brief (A)

I am going to design and make a cereal box based on Italian artist Caravaggio. The box must include important facts about Caravaggio and events during his lifetime. The goal of the product is to inform about Caravaggio and make the design of the front cover appealing. My product will mostly target young children appreciative of art. I believe a succesful product is defined by the feedback it gets, if people purchase it or not. The product i make i want it to be colorful, to stand out from other cereals. Also important information on Caravaggio to keep my targets interested in it and encourage them to buy it. Things i wouldn't do with my product would be to have allot of blank space or too much writing and keep away from dull colors. All these things could make targets not want to use my product.

The designer has targeted adults by placing positive nutrition facts on the front. Drawing the shape of a heart and including the facts that it's whole grain and helps lower cholesterol.

2. What gender of adult is targeted? What elements led you to this conclusion?
I think any gender adults are targeted because there arent any aspects that lean towards femenine or masculine. The colors are neutral and the writing and designs of the front are both towards males and females.

3. What is the advertising slogan?
The advertising slogan is "Cheerios May Reduced Your Cholesterol!"

2. What gender of children is targeted? What elements led you to this conclusion? I would say that mostly boys are being targeted because of the pirate, it is mostly boys that are interested by these types of characters.

3. What is the advertising slogan?

The advertising slogan is "Crunchatize me Cap'n".

Blog Entry #4.1 - Design Task (A)

In this project the task is to create a cereal box based on an important historical figure. The box must have an original name and consist of important facts about the notable person. The historical figure assigned to me is Caravaggio, an Italian Baroque artist.

Blog Entry #3.12 - Process Journal 3 (E)

The items i have added to my poster include the red background. I've also put the main picture and an extracted image of the leader. I also put a quote about the country on the top left corner, kind of like a slogan. Next week i need to add the other required images including popular sites, their currency, their flag etc. Based on the Criterion F rubric i would give myself a 6 because I'm always cooperative and I portray allot of independence when working on the poster.

Blog Entry #3.10 - Process Journal 2 (E)

So far i have created a sketch of my poster. It includes all the things that the poster is supposed to consist of.I have also started my poster, posted a few of the images and texts on it already. I could improvew my work by doing certain thingz with it to make it more attention catching. In criterion F i would give myself a 6. This is because I'm always working independently and only work with others when i'm asking for help or helping them. Also, I treat the computer and other utensils in class with care and I treat my fellow classmates respectfully.

Blog Entry #3.8 - Target Customer (B)

My poster would target curious tourists that like to be outdoors. These could include architects that like to be inspired by other structures. That enjoy gaping at complex structures and breathtaking views. The images of the malls, pavilions and stadiums are some of the works that architects could borrow ideas from. The huge parks and gardens could persuade tourists that enjoy being outdoors during the day time. And for those who like night outings i could include Tazmanian restaurants, clubs etc.

Blog Entry #3.5 - Design Brief (A)

I am going to desing and make a poster for a tourism poster. The objective of this poster would be to encourage people to visit the country of Taiwan. To show tourists attractive features of Taiwan. My markets demographics would include people eager to explore the world. Males and females with good credit scores able to afford going to Taiwan. I think that what makes defines if a product is successful or not is if it's goal is reached. I would know that my poster is successful if many tourists travel to Taiwan after it is published. A successful product would be attractive, legible, informative and intriguing. Things i wouldnt want to see in my design are unlegible apendmenship, boring colors and clutter. With objects all over it, overwhelming the target.

Blog Entry #3.4 - Process Journal 1 (C)

Get images of the country- Pictures of the people, the sites, popular attractions and other thing that could encourage people to attend the country.
Study the country- Find information on how the country is, what it's like.
Apply a background color, put the images together and add text using Adobe Illustrator.
Find reasons why tourists visit countries so i could find some of those things in the country.

Blog Entry #3.3 - Poster Research (A)

The poster I chose was the one of Kakadu. What drew my attention to it was the children on the cliff with the body of water under them. The image that came to me was of them diving off the cliff into the water, something that I love to do. Adventurous and curious tourist are being targeted. I can see this because the poster displays fun and active activities and and the tourists exploring the land while trailing and camping. The information that the tourists receive from the poster is the geography of the area. The open lands, bodies of water and mountains.

Blog Entry #3.2 - Dream Destination (A)

If i could go to any country in the world it would be Egypt. With all it's beautiful and historic sites. I'm interested in visiting this country because of all the black history there, since that's where the civilization began. During this visit i would visit the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx. I would also take a trip on the Sahara Desert through camel back. I would also visit one of the holiest worshiping sites, Abydos.

Blog Entry #3.1 - Design Task (A)

In this project our task is to create a poster based on a certain country. This poster has to encourage people to visit that country. It must include images and information about that country.

Blog Entry #2.22 - Human Ingenuity (E)

I thinkn there's a possibility Hispanic Jews would feel offended by the cards i creatd targeted towards them. This is because i made them in Spanish so some of them might think that i was stereotyping them as not knowing English.

Blog Entry #2.21 - Greeting Card 3 Reject (B,D)

1) This card is also targeted towards Hispanic Jews celebrating Yom Kippur.
2) This design isnt less appealing to customers, it just has a less deeper concept than the other card. Some customers might even find this design more appealing because of its simplicity.
3) The image could be changed to a more heart touching one to make the card more appealing

Blog Entry #2.20 - Greeting Card 3 (B,D)

1) This card is targeted towards Hispanic Jews that celebrate Yom Kippur.
2) The family concept of the card is supposed to appeal to this audience.
3) I didnt make any changes to this card. I did add the black background when creating it on Adobe Illustrator to give it depth. Make the message more intense.

Blog Entry #2.19 - Greeting Card 2 Reject (B,D)

1) This card is also targeted towards children.
2) I dont think this design is less appealing than the other childrens' greeting card, it's just my personal opinion that the other is better looking. This is because i really like red. If it wasnt because of that, the image would make this card more appealing.
3)There are no changes i would make to this card because it'a already appealing towards customers.

Blog Entry #2.18 - Greeting Card 2 (B,D)

1) The targeted customers for this greeting card are children.
2) The image of the young girl blowing into the horn is an element that will appeal to the children and they could relate to it because they're young.
3) In this card i also changed the color. Not of the background, but of the border that i was going to put into it. I decided against the border because it would have been black, a color that would have brought down the cheeriness of the card.

Blog Entry #2.17 - Greeting Card 1 Reject (B,D)

1) This greeting card is also for adults.
2) I believe this desing is less appealing because the color is less llamative, it doesnt attract as much attention.
3) To be more appealing to the customer, the green background could be exchanged for a brighter color.

Blog Entry #2.16 - Greeting Card 1 (B,D)

1) The consumer targeted with this card is adults.
2) The different images on the front that coneect to Yom Kippur are supposed to appeal to adults because they're objects that they use when celebrating the holiday.
3) One change that i made was that i gave the final design color. I chose purple because since i'm a female, i wanted to give it an appealing femenine touch. The font, i made it a classical type because adults seem to like a classical touch.
